the small print

okay. a little more meat.

BEEFY is a saturation and loudness effect for making sounds thicker, punchier and more up front. It adds body, squeezes some space out of the peaks, and brings out harmonics that help a sound feel bigger. A little can fill things out. A lot can get rude. That’s what the big knob is for.

anything you wanna make more fatterrer.

Start with drums: kicks that need more chest, snares that need more smack, a break that needs to stop being so polite. Try it on a whole drum bus to pull the hits and the body closer together. Or give an individual sound its own helping.

808s and bass are very much invited. SOFT CLIP brings rounded, fuzzy edges to the loudest parts, adding harmonics above the low end so there’s more to hear than just sub. It can take a clean bass note toward a growl, or give a kick that pleasantly chewed-up edge.

There’s no drum-only rule. Feed it a thin synth, a chopped sample, an electric piano, a guitar, or a vocal that could use some attitude. Use a little for weight and presence, or push it for a more obviously saturated sound. If it’s already enormous, go easy. The cow has a family.

three knobs. you’ll live.

BEEF is the main event: more weight, more density, more loudness, and more attitude as you turn it up. COOK changes the colour and bite, from a rounder feel toward a brighter, more cooked edge. JUICE sets the level going in, so you can feed it a little harder or back things off. No spreadsheet required.

soft, loud, or left to your own devices.

SOFT CLIP opens switched on. It takes care of the initial gain staging for you, helping the clipping find the sound without making you hunt for a magic input level. You can still add more BEEF. The result follows what you feed it: a kick, a sustained bass note and a drum loop each give it something different to chew on.

Prefer the straight-ahead fattening treatment? Switch to LIMIT to keep the output peaks in check, or turn both buttons off and push it yourself. LIMIT and SOFT CLIP are separate choices. The input and output clip lights help you keep an eye on either end.

the cow is part of the deal.

A fully cartoon panel, two finishes, and a cow that reacts to the audio. Turn things up and he gets increasingly dramatic. The window resizes and remembers its size when you reopen it. It starts at 80%, with room to grow.
